Individual Therapy

New clients first step is an Intake Evaluation to get to know you and what you want to work on. We will address current symptoms and issues and collaborate on goal-setting during the Intake Evaluation. Then, during individual or couples therapy sessions, we will work through these issues in a collaborative approach, based on your needs. Evaluations and therapy can be conducted via teletherapy or in-person.

Insurance and Payment

We accept the following health insurances: Highmark and Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans, Aetna, UPMC Health Plan, Optum (United Healthcare), and  Evernorth (formerly known as Cigna). Additionally. Mary Lou accepts PA Medicare.

Most health insurances cover therapy, but it is a good idea to call your health insurer and ask if outpatient mental health is covered and if you have a deductible or co-pay.

Payment is due at the end of each session. We accept all major credit cards (payment processing through SimplePractice). HSA and FSA cards are accepted as well.

Please be aware that we have a no show/late cancellation policy that requires cancellation 24 hours before scheduled or a $75 fee will be charged. If you cancel 24 hours or more before, there will be no charge. We understand that things happen sometimes so please contact your provider if there was an emergency that prevented you from cancelling on time.

For Self-Pay Clients

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using in-network insurance coverage an estimate of the bill for health services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees, but also includes psychotherapy/marriage/family therapy.

A Good Faith Estimate should be available in writing at least 1 business day before your initial session whenever possible. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before/at the time when you schedule a service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
